How to Play

Build the greatest baseball team that never existed. Each roll loads a real MLB franchise from a real season - pick one player, assign them to a slot, and move on. Fill all 13 spots, simulate a 162-game season, and see how far your team goes. Draft perfectly and you go 162-0.

  • Press Roll to load a real team. Tap any player to open their draft card, then tap a glowing slot to assign them.
  • Cards show batting stats in blue and fielding stats in green. Both affect your score - don't draft on the batting line alone.
  • Progress saves to your browser - close and come back anytime before your 13th pick.

Your 13 Slots

Batting Lineup — 9 spots

C 1B 2B 3B SS LF CF RF DH

Pitching — 4 spots

SP 1 SP 2 SP 3 CL

Outfielders fill LF, CF, or RF. DH takes any position player - great for a powerful bat whose primary spot is already filled. Only pitchers fill SP and CL.

Slot fit matters. Playing someone out of position creates a penalty, and the premium gloves at C, SS, CF, 2B, and 3B can add or remove wins.

Reading the Stats

Player cards show two stat lines: blue for offense, green for defense. Both affect your score - don't draft on the batting line alone.

Hitters: AVG, OBP, SLG, ISO, HR, SB. Defense row shows real fielding stats from that season; if unavailable, DEF RTG fills in.

Pitchers: ERA, WHIP, IP, W-L, K, SV. Starters need volume. Closers need dominance and saves.

OBPAbove .370 is excellent. Above .400 is elite. Walks score runs, so OBP matters more than batting average alone.
ISOIsolated power (SLG - AVG). Strips out singles to measure true extra-base ability. Above .200 is above average; above .280 is elite. Relevant from any era.
FLD%Above .985 is excellent for most positions; above .995 is elite. Below .960 is a liability regardless of the bat.
ASTInfielder range - SS, 2B, 3B. High assists means covering ground and turning double plays.
POOutfield range - especially CF. A center fielder with 350+ PO is elite.
CS%Catchers only. Above 35% is elite. Shutting down the running game takes away free bases every night.
E / DPFewer errors and more double plays translate directly to outs. A SS with 20+ E is costing wins regardless of the bat.
What to Draft For
CDefense matters a lot here. Look for CS%, FLD%, low errors, and enough OBP not to kill the lineup.
1B / DHThese are bat-first spots. Prioritize OBP, SLG, ISO, HR, and overall run production.
2B / 3BYou need both sides. Good OBP and power help, but AST, DP, and clean fielding protect the premium-defense bonus.
SSOne of the most important slots. A bad glove at shortstop costs wins fast. Great SS seasons with OBP are gold.
LF / RFCorner outfield should hit. Power and OBP matter more here than glove, though terrible defense still hurts.
CFPremium defense spot. Look for range, PO, speed, and enough bat to avoid a lineup hole.
SP1Your ace carries 45% of the rotation score. Prioritize low ERA/WHIP with 200+ IP or a true workhorse season.
SP2 / SP3Depth still matters. Avoid tiny-sample pitchers; innings pitched and games started keep the model stable.
CLOnly 6% of team rating, but high leverage. Look for saves, low ERA, low WHIP, and real relief workload.
Award Badge Key

How Scoring Works

Scores are era-normalized. A 50 means league-average for that decade - not failure. A .920 OPS in 2001 is graded against the steroid era; the same line in 1968 scores substantially higher. This keeps every era of baseball on equal footing.

80+Elite - appears green.
64-79Strong - appears gold.
50-63Solid - appears blue.
Below 50Weak - costs wins every night. Appears red.
Offense - 52%OBP, slugging, power, and plate discipline across all nine batting spots. C, SS, and CF get a small two-way bump when the glove is good.
Rotation - 27%SP1 is 45% of the rotation, SP2 is 33%, SP3 is 22%. Innings and starts matter alongside ERA and WHIP.
Defense - 15%Real fielding stats at all nine spots. C, SS, and CF are weighted highest, then 2B and 3B.
Closer - 6%Saves, ERA, WHIP, and relief workload. A dominant ninth adds wins; a shaky one gives them back.

Balance is required for 162-0. If offense and pitching are close, the model can add up to 4 wins. If one side carries the whole team, it can remove up to 5 wins. Hall of Fame-caliber seasons help offset one weak link - but not an entire broken category.

Perfect Season Checklist
  • No out-of-position penalty. Every player needs to fit their slot.
  • Strong offense, rotation, closer, and defense. A 162-0 team cannot punt any category.
  • Classic/Hard Ball perfect target: offense around 77+, rotation 78+, closer 69+, defense 59+, with enough star power to cover small misses.
  • Daily perfect target is stricter: offense around 81+, rotation 82+, closer 76+, defense 64+, and no balance penalty.
  • Premium defense helps. C, SS, CF, 2B, and 3B can create a bonus when those gloves are strong, or a penalty when they are weak.
Draft Strategy
  • Do not wait too long on pitching. SP1 is the single most important pitching slot, and a weak ace is hard to hide.
  • Use DH to rescue a great bat whose position is already filled.
  • Protect C, SS, and CF. Those spots are where defense swings the most wins.
  • Corner bats should mash. 1B, LF, RF, and DH are where you can chase pure offense.
  • In Hard Ball, use year, awards, team quality, and baseball memory. The stats are hidden, but award badges and context are clues.
